Our Story
Ewald's Smoke Pit
While growing up in Minnesota, our owner and operator Ryan spent his summers working with his grandpa on the farm. While working on the farm, he observed the hard work and dedication his Grandpa put in every day. Learning if you want something you have to work for it. Upon graduating from high school, Ryan enlisted in the Navy. From this, he gained his lifelong dedication to perfection and attention to detail. He always enjoyed good BBQ of any kind and always had an interest in the art of BBQ. But in 2014 he purchased a smoker as a gift, and from there his love and dedication to BBQ truly emerged. Over the course of the next few years he read as many books and watched as many videos as possible from some of the biggest BBQ icons in the country. From this his knowledge and understanding of BBQ continued to grow.
He was continuously encouraged to start competitive BBQ by family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who tasted his high-quality products. Ryan, refused to enter competitive BBQ until he knew he was putting out the bests possible product. In 2020, he entered his first competition at the Scheels ND BBQ Championship in Fargo, ND. He ended up taking home multiple awards and his competitive fire was officially lit. In the years following he would go on to earn numerous other awards.
In 2023, he moved to Northern Colorado and decided his BBQ team would be renamed in honor of his Grandpa. It was at this time Ewald’s Smoke Pit was officially born. Over time, the overall product continued to be perfected by trying different methods and products. Most notably, Ryan learned from many of the best BBQ cooks in the country. This in combination with his already wide array of BBQ knowledge has led to the BBQ perfection only produced by Ewald’s Smoke Pit.
